The Irish landscape with its restless elemental forces is a constant source of inspiration to Donna McGee. Her aim is to capture the essence of the timeless beauty, both in traditional and abstract form – inviting others to see the world through her eyes and stimulating a sense of well-being and harmony.
Her preferred medium is oils because of the vibrancy, fluidity and depth of colour that can be achieved. She sometimes uses palette knives to create rich textures in impasto style which can result in a dynamic raw energy.
Donna likes to travel and is a regular visitor to the west coast of Ireland. She also enjoys hill-walking and with camera at the ready, there is always an interesting vista to capture and work upon later in her studio. Weather permitting, she likes to paint outdoors (en plein air) and is a regular visitor to the annual international event in Wexford Art in the Open. This is Europe’s largest open air painting festival.
Donna exhibits in selected galleries and group exhibitions including Art Source, Ireland’s premier Art Fair. Her work is represented in collections both in Ireland and abroad and she has received a number of international awards.
